Google Reader is dying.

Google will put the stake in Reader's heart on the 1st of July, 2013.  What is the best replacement RSS application for PC & iMac computers?  We'll need to migrate soon!

  1. Does that mean that fewer people are going to be reading my blog and pestering me with stupid comments like this one?

  2. Perhaps. I'll miss Google reader. It's a nice way to organize the sixty or so blogs which I follow and easily see who's posted something new. I don't know which of several alternatives is the best choice but I'm probably going to migrate to feedly.com and see if I like it.

  4. You can Follow those on Blogspot I suppose, and have Wordpress delivered to your email. What a pain.

    1. Baydog: If you follow more than a small handful of blogs life becomes easier if you use a RSS (aka "Rich Site Summary", or sometimes "Really Simple Syndication") application such as the soon to be terminated Google Reader to see at a glance which if any of the bloggers you enjoy has posted new content. Like most things in life which are complex and beyond the normal scope of the user, (for example, most people can't explain the workings of an automobile's transmission but they can successfully drive a car), many of us have grown accustomed to google reader and having to migrate away and learn yet another application is a minor PITA.

If you only look at a few blogs on a regular basis, then this particular tempest is not a big deal for you. I don't know why Google is pulling the plug on Reader, but my common sense tells me the decision probably boils down to $$$.

    2. They say it's because fewer people are using it. Does that mean fewer people are reading blogs overall?

    3. Don't know. I think Twitter and FB have made in roads on Blogger but my blogs seem to draw a consistent following. Perhaps Blogger will go the way of "Reader", and hard copy books, and film cameras, and buggy whips. OTOH, the light bulb didn't completely replace the candle nor did motor boats eliminate sails. No bit of human knowledge ever becomes totally redundant. You never know when you might have to go flake a new spear tip from a piece of flint in order to feed your belly...
