Morfar is Swedish for grandfather, more specifically one's mother's father. Recently our children's maternal GP lashed out and bought himself a nicely preserved 1966 Chevy Impala from an ebay seller way up in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Apologies in advance for date/time stamps. I was borrowing Mother-in-law's camera.
An imposing beast by today's standards with lots of leg room for both front and rear seat occupants. |
This car has the well known 283 cubic inch v8 and 2-speed power glide automatic gearbox. |
Love that speedometer! 138,000 miles on the "clock". |
Quad headlights were all the rage back in the '60s. |
You're a long way from your old home... |
The metallic blue suits the car. |
Vroom, Vroom! |
... your gain.
ReplyDeleteThere, there, Gunnar. Don't think of it in terms of a loss; think of it as a temporary transfer of caretakers from one left leaning "M" state to another.
DeleteI think I could park Xenopus the Buyeye in that trunk and still have room for Ma's hatbox.
Nice car.
ReplyDeleteHej Johannes: Morfar tycker detsamma!

Well, the Impala in these times is still a beast in its own right, as it’s used as a symbol of power in movies, and in rap music videos as well. Apart from this, it’s distinguished among others by its chrome trim and bumpers. Way to go on chroming the wheels, too – it adds to that swag polish.

Thanks, the hub caps and wheel trim rings were courtesy of the previous owner who works at a tire shop. Father-in-law hasn't changed a thing (yet).
ReplyDeleteI agree with Tyra on that one. Most Chevy Impalas are used in rap music videos because they have that certain swagger that no other car has. Impalas also have that classic look that rubs off on the videos. Mmm.. You've chosen the perfect hub caps for your Impala. It has a fresher look, and at the same time, the Impala is more on the classic side of things. Overall, it has a well-balanced design.

Each generation tends to identify with different cars. For guys 10 years older than me it's all about '55 , '56 & '57 Bel Air coupes. I'll admit a fondness for '57 Bel Airs (love the tail fins), but overall I like the '60s Impalas better.
